Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine
Leconfield Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, first released in 1977, is the winery's lead wine. It is grown in Coonawarra's celebrated rich terra rossa soils over limestone.
Blocks of mature vines, planted between 1974 and 2001, are patiently monitored and harvested at optimum ripeness. Typically the oldest blocks ripen early, and their fruit completes fermentation in new French oak after around a week on skins.
Fruit from the remaining blocks spends more time macerating on skins. After malolactic fermentation, these parcels are placed into French oak barrels and matured for 18 months with several rackings.
As the wine ages, some batches in new oak are swapped to seasoned oak and vice versa, depending on the needs of the parcel. There is minimal fining before bottling.
Dense red, Leconfield Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon has elegant layers of rich fruit, fine tannins and aromatic oak with a bright finish. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
